In 1928, Prohibition has brought a wave of violence that has swept across America. In New York, at the Cotton Club cabaret, the mob, politicians and stars of the moment taste forbidden pleasures. A white trumpeter and a black dancer are swept up in a turmoil where love and ambition are played out to the rhythm of tap dancing, jazz and machine guns.
