Edward and Constance Sumner live in a vast house on the outskirts of New York that exudes order and serenity. This place is a reflection of their couple, so harmonious that one might think it is safe from any surprises. One day, in New York, a violent wind literally pushes Connie into the arms of a young stranger, Paul Martel, a rare book dealer. A phone call from him, a meeting obtained at the last minute sows confusion in her. At the third meeting, Connie forgets a personal object in Paul's loft and finally gives in to her desire.
