In San Francisco, Will tries to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease by testing on primates. After an experiment goes wrong, the researcher takes in a baby chimpanzee. As he grows up, Caesar is unlike other animals of his species. He is gifted with incredible intelligence, being able to communicate using signs and solve many puzzles. An incident places him in captivity where he is mistreated by humans. Instead of bowing his head, the primate resists. He even manages to incite the other monkeys to rebel against their masters.
