As a child, Edith began singing with her father, himself an acrobat, during a performance. Her voice captivated the audience. For several years, she continued to sing in the streets of Montmartre to earn a living. Then she met Louis Leplée, owner of a cabaret, who offered her the chance to sing in his establishment. He was also the one who gave her the nickname "la Môme". This marked the beginning of Edith's long career from Paris to New York.
