For over 40 years, Felix Bush has lived as a recluse in a Tennessee forest. A tragic and mysterious event from his past has forced him to cut himself off from civilization. In the neighboring village, the old hermit is feared and the subject of all sorts of rumors. One day, he decides to come out of his isolation to go to the village church. He has a very special request to make to the parish priest. He wants to organize his own funeral and attend it! Faced with the minister's refusal to comply, he turns to the community's funeral director. Frank Quinn agrees to carry out Felix's crazy project, but the closer the day gets, the more the old man's past resurfaces.
