Henry Roth is a marine veterinarian in Hawaii who has a habit of not getting attached and changing partners very often, giving them all sorts of excuses and using tricks. One day, he meets Lucy Whitmore at the Hukilau café and falls instantly in love with her. They get to know each other, spend some time together and leave, but the next day, Lucy does not seem to remember Henry and takes him for a pervert. It is only after that Sue, the owner of the café, explains to him that Lucy was the victim of a serious accident with her father, the day before his birthday, which caused Lucy to go into shock, which makes her forget every night what she did during the day.
