A variation on the often conflicting relationship between man and machine in the year 2058. This futuristic society, where robots are relegated to the stage of machines at the service of men, is notably governed by three Laws of Robotics. According to the First Law, a robot may not harm a human being or leave a human being in danger without assistance. The Second Law stipulates that a robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except when such orders are incompatible with the First Law. As for the Third Law, it mentions that a robot must protect its own existence as long as this protection is not incompatible with the First or Second Law. But Detective Spooner is investigating a murder that was probably committed by a robot, which would seem impossible a priori given the existence of these three laws...
