After twenty-two years of internment, Norman Bates is declared sane and released, despite the protests of Lila Loomis, his victim's sister. Accompanied by Doctor Raymond, who treated him, he moves back into his mother's house, next to the motel he still owns. He finds work in a snack bar and becomes friends with Mary, a waitress.
