The Saint-Georges, a British Navy spy trawler, is sunk off the coast of Albania. It was equipped with an ATAC system for firing nuclear missiles, and the Russian secret services are interested in its wreck. Timothy Havelock, who works for the Intelligence Service under the cover of archaeological diving, is looking for the ATAC. He is assassinated in front of his daughter Mélina by a certain Gonzales.
