Since the blockade of the planet Naboo, the Republic, governed by Chancellor Palpatine, has been in crisis. A group of dissidents, led by the dark Jedi Count Dooku, has expressed their discontent. The Senate and the intergalactic population are worried. Some senators are asking for the Republic to be equipped with an army to prevent the situation from deteriorating. Padmé Amidala, who has become a senator, is threatened by the separatists and escapes an assassination attempt.
